Start Sewing Series (3 session course)
Sliding scale:
Tier 1: 0-60K

Class Description: This is your sign to Start Sewing! In this 3 week course we will take a deep dive into the world of sewing. We'll cover all the basics while making two projects.
Week 1: We'll spend most of this week getting comfortable using a sewing machine. We'll make sure you know how to wind the bobbin and thread the machine, what all the knobs and levers do, and provide advice on acquiring your own sewing machine. We'll get started on our first project, a cute handled basket.
Techniques learned:
- Threading and operating sewing machine
- Prepping and cutting fabric using a rotary cutter, ruler, and cutting mat
Week 2: We'll sew up the thread basket and start the second project, pajama pants. We'll measure for size, cut out the pattern, and cut out your fabric
Techniques learned:
- Sewing RST (right sides together)
- Order of operations for assembling a project
- top stitching
- measuring yourself to determine sizing
- following a garment pattern
- cutting out a garment pattern
Week 3: We'll sew up your pajama pants!
Techniques learned
- Sewing in seam pockets
- Following garment pattern instructions
- Finishing seams
- Creating a channel and inserting elastic
- Hemming
Duration: 3 sessions, 4 hours each with breaks. Please ensure you can attend all dates before registering
Students Bring: Students do not need to bring a sewing machine but are welcome to bring their own as long as it is in good working condition. Students will need to purchase fabric and elastic for their pajama pants, as well as download the pattern from 5 out of 4 patterns. Students will need to provide their own lunch or snacks for breaks. There are also several near by convenience stores and coffee shops.
Materials Included: Each student will select 2 fat quarters for their fabric basket project.
You'll Leave With: A completed fabric basket and a pair of pajama pants! Plus the knowledge and confidence to continue your sewing journey.

Skill Details: If you've never touched a sewing machine or if it's been a while this class is for you! We have designed this class to cater to absolute beginners. You do not need to know anything about sewing to take this class. This is where we recommend starting on your sewing journey!
