Small Business December 2025
Shopping small does more than just check gifts off a list - it keeps creativity, connection, and care alive in our community. When you choose to support indie shops and makers, you’re helping real people pay rent, keep studio lights on, and keep cool, quirky ideas coming to life.
This December, we’re taking a little extra time to highlight some of our favorite small businesses and makers as a way to send them some love and give you ideas for holiday shopping beyond the big box scroll. Diana Li Fitzgerald, owner of Banjoflannel, has been sewing for over 20 years. She has presented workshops and lectures at Quiltcon 2022, 2024 & 2025 and was also selected as a Ruby Star Maker for 2024 & 2025 by Ruby Star Society. She currently designs sewing patterns, teaches and tinkers with different sewing and hand-stitching techniques full-time. Alexandra, the artist behind Wild Hunt, is an illustrator, graphic designer, and crafter who lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan with a fiesty chihuahua and a lot of struggling houseplants. Drawing inspiration from the wild and weird wonders of nature and the joy of creative exploration, her designs are a celebration of individuality and imagination. Marlin Beach Club is the work of Portland-based ceramic artist Brittany Marlin. Each piece begins as a hand-sculpted wax model, which Brittany transforms into a plaster mold. Using liquid clay—known as slip—she casts, glazes, and fires every creation at least twice to achieve its unique character and finish.
