About Us
Our Mission
At Wyldwood Creative, our mission is to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive space for the local sewing and crafting community. We strive to provide a thoughtfully curated selection of fabrics, tools, and classes while fostering a space where creativity thrives, and everyone feels at home.
Our Values
Community & Inclusivity
We believe sewing and making are for everyone. Our space is designed to be a welcoming, judgment-free environment where individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels can connect, create, and grow. If inclusivity is not a value you share, this may not be the space for you.
Accessibility
Creativity should be accessible to all. We are committed to removing barriers to crafting through our sliding scale class pricing and scholarship seats. We strive to make our physical and digital spaces as accessible as possible so that everyone has the opportunity to explore their creative side. Additionally, we host a Craft Exchange Corner (CEX-C)—a community-driven space where makers can donate supplies they no longer need and pick up materials for their own projects, ensuring resources are shared and put to good use. Think of it like a little free library but for craft supplies!
Respect for Native Land
We acknowledge that our store is located on occupied Duwamish land. We honor the stewards of this land that have been here since time immemorial. We pay a monthly rent to the Duwamish people to help preserve their culture and to take accountability for treaties that have not been honored. To learn more about becoming a "real renter," please visit Real Rent Duwamish.
Racial & Social Equity
We recognize that systemic injustice exists and believe businesses have a responsibility to be part of the solution. We donate monthly to nonprofits serving underrepresented communities, and actively work toward making the sewing and maker community more equitable. This work is ongoing, and we are committed to continuous learning and action.
Sustainability
We are dedicated to reducing our ecological footprint. We aim to carry only natural fiber materials such as cotton, linen, hemp, and EcoVero viscose as a rayon alternative. We do not carry polyester, with the exception of polyester thread and notions that require it. We lower our impact by reusing as much as possible—our shopping bags are repurposed from community members (if you have handled bags, we’d love to take them off your hands!). We also find creative ways to reuse fabric scraps and use EcoEnclose mailers for sustainable packaging. Additionally, we partner with Ridwell to recycle plastic film and textile waste, ensuring our waste stream is as minimal as possible.
Ethical Sourcing & Partnerships
We strive to work with companies that align with our values, prioritizing local and other small businesses for our crafting kits and gift items. We believe in supporting ethical production, sustainability, and fair labor practices wherever possible. While it is not always possible to source 100% from like-minded suppliers, we remain transparent about our choices and continuously seek ways to improve our sourcing standards.
Our Story
Wyldwood Creative was founded on the belief that everyone has a creative spark waiting to be ignited. Our owner, Tawnee, has always loved making things, and she often heard people say, "I could never do that; I'm just not crafty." At Wyldwood, we challenge that mindset. We believe that creativity is for everyone—sometimes, it just takes the right project or medium to discover it.
To help you find your creative passion, we partner with local artists and instructors to offer a variety of classes, from sewing and quilting to watercolor and embroidery. Our light-filled space in Downtown Renton is a community hub where you can explore new skills, meet like-minded makers, and feel empowered in your creative journey.
Alongside our workshops, we offer a curated selection of modern fabrics, quality sewing tools and locally made goods. We invite you to visit, stay a while, and experience the vibrant small business community that makes Renton special. Wyldwood Creative is more than a store—it’s a place to create, connect, and feel at home.
