Accessibilty at Wyldwood Creative
We want to ensure that everyone has access to our space, and will work to accommodate your needs. If the information below doesn’t answer your questions about the shop, please feel free to call or text 425-291-7452 or use the contact page to email us.
Parking
Downtown Renton has free street parking and several free parking lots near the shop. There is a small gravel parking lot behind the shop, which can be entered from Wells Ave. To get to the shop after you’ve parked, head toward Wells Avenue and turn right onto 3rd Street. Take a right at the corner with Macadons, and we are the 3rd shop on your right.
There is a paved lot at the corner of Houser Way and Wells Ave, but it may pose a challenge if you use a mobility aid, as there are railroad tracks to cross to get to the shop.
The largest parking lot is the City Center Garage at the transit center, which is also free to use for up to 10 hours per day. There are accessible sidewalks and crosswalks the entire way from the transit center to the shop.
Visiting the Shop
We’re proud to be a part of downtown Renton, and we’re located in a 100+ year old building full of charm and quirks.
Wyldwood’s entrance has no steps, but a small incline just inside the door. Our front entrance is wide enough for wheelchair access, but we do not have a motorized door. We try to ensure that our shop floor has enough space for mobility aids, but we rearrange often. If something is inaccessible to you, please let us know, and we’ll help!
If you’d like to see the most up-to-date layout, our Instagram has shop tours posted to it regularly that can show you the layout and where we have things.
We have an all-gender restroom in the shop, equipped with handrails and sanitary supplies. While the door to the restroom is wide enough (35 ½ inches) to accommodate wheelchairs, the door to the back hall is only 29 ½ inches, which may not be wide enough for all users to access.
Classroom
Our classroom space is part of the shop, and on weekends when classes are happening during shop hours, it is a bustling space! If you have trouble hearing, please let your instructor know, and we’ll seat you closer to them and be sure to speak up.
Our classroom is equipped with 5 adjustable height desks, and we have fixed height rolling chairs or stationary chairs. If you have a preference, we’re happy to swap chairs out for you. The desks are on lockable wheels, so if we need to move them for any reason, we can. Both sides of the classroom space are wider than 36inches to allow people to move behind you.
For sewing classes, we provide sewing machines and tools for you to use during the lesson. We have left-handed tools available if you need them. Just let your instructor know, and they will grab you a set.
- For intermediate and advanced sewing classes, you are welcome to bring your own machine to use, but please let us know ahead of time that you’ll be doing so. If you can arrive a few minutes early to class to set up your machine, that helps us keep to time.
- Beginner classes will use our shop machines and include instruction on how to use them.
If you have difficulty standing for tasks like ironing, let your instructor know to set up your ironing station with the classroom stool.
You are welcome to bring tools you use at home if you have things that make your sewing time easier for you (such as needle threaders, ergonomic hand tools, etc.) Just be sure not forget them at the end of class.
In classes that require PPE (such as ice dyeing and jesomonite), the appropriate gear will be provided, but if you’d prefer your own gloves or facemask, you may bring them.
