The Ilford Jacket is a great place to start on your garment sewing journey! The Ilford Jacket is a versatile style that’s modular design makes for a pattern that is simple, yet impactful. It can be customized a million different ways and really is a “choose your own adventure” type of pattern that incorporates your design sense into the project!
It features drop shoulders and comes with two sleeve options: a placket sleeve with cuff, and an easy to sew boxy sleeve for a more relaxed vibe. We will be making the boxy sleeve option. It also includes two lengths as well as a bunch of pocket templates that you can mix and match. The possibilities are endless! You can wear the Ilford as a jacket or shirt depending on the fabric you use. This is a fun, skill building pattern that you will want to make/wear again and again! This pattern is for everyone and looks great on all gender expressions!

You'll need to order or buy fabric at least 1 week prior to class to allow time for washing and other prep. You'll arrive at class in the store with your fabric pieces already cut out, edges finished, and interfacing applied.
In this course you will learn how to:

Create and sew on a collar

Create and sew a button placket

Attach a drop sleeve

Pocket placement and attachment

Hemming and finishing including how to make button holes

How to work from a printed pattern
At the end of class you’ll have a completed jacket body with finished collar and button placket. We’ll demonstrate how to make button holes. Depending on the pace you work at you may need to finish the button holes, buttons, and jacket hem on your own. There will be an hour after class that you can stay to continue working on your project, this hour will not include an instructor.
Class Duration: 3 Hours + 1 hour of independent work time after class
Students Bring: Your cut out pattern pieces with raw edges finished and interfacing applied, thread, the printed pattern, your scrap fabric (you will receive an instructional video on how to cut out your pieces upon registration)
Materials Required: Fabric, coordinating thread, and buttons
Suggested Fabric: This pattern is for woven fabrics. You can choose from a variety of fabrics depending on how heavy you would like your jacket to be. For a lightweight layering Jacket check out our midweight fabrics. For a heavier, warmer jacket check out our heavy weight garment fabrics. You can make your jacket out of any woven fabric.
Materials Included with registration: PDF Printed, and digital copy of the Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Company (available for pick up at the store upon registration. We can also mail it to you for $5). Use of all needed tools including sewing machine, seam ripper, iron, etc
You will leave with: A (mostly) finished Ilford Jacket, and the knowledge and confidence to continue making your own clothes!

- Intermediate: Students should have a good amount of sewing experience. Students should have made 5+ sewing projects of any type on their own. It's okay if this is your first garment! Students should be very comfortable operating and troubleshooting a sewing machine, comfortable using a rotary cutter, maintaining a consistent seam allowance, and be familiar with sewing terminology like RST, WST, backstitch, etc.
