About the Artist:
Anneke Wilder explored the countryside of her South Carolina home as a young person and her curiosity about nature followed her to her new home in the Pacific Northwest. In college she studied biology and ecology in a serious way, then chose to combine both interests in making a career.
The cycle of growth, decay, and regrowth is a driving theme of her work. Something grows from inevitable decay, creating a circuitous pathway in nature, whether a Bic lighter sprouting mushrooms or a flower growing out of a human skull. A human eye peers out from a ball of moss, as if to ask for redemption.
