Learn Your Machine
Description: Were you gifted a sewing machine or have one gathering dust in a closet because you don’t know how to thread it? Have no fear! Our instructors will walk you through threading your machine and practicing common stitches.
In this course you will learn how to:
- The “anatomy” of your machine
- Threading machine and winding bobbin
- Cleaning Machine
- Stitch adjustments
- Changing stitches
- Changing presser feet
- Practicing seam allowances
This class does not include a project to complete. You will be working with scrap fabric and practicing stitches for the work time portion of the class.
Class Duration: 2 hours total. Class includes 45 minutes of instructions and 1 hour of work time/troubleshooting, the last 15 minutes will be for cleaning and packing up
Students Bring: YOUR sewing machine. Students will bring their sewing machines to class to learn how to operate them. Machine must be in operational condition, we cannot offer any repair services. Please bring your owner's manual and notebook to take notes with.
Needed Materials: bobbins for your machine, spool of thread, scrap fabric, owner’s manual (physical or PDF), any presser feet or additional parts that came with your machine.
You will leave with: The knowledge and confidence to use your serger machine!
Prior to Class: We will reach out to you a week prior to class for your machine’s model and to confirm that it is in working order. If you are using a vintage/thrifted machine you may want to take it in for servicing if you have never used it before prior to class.
