Intermediate Sewing - Cameron Button Up
Ready to take your garment sewing to the next level?
The Cameron Shirt is a fantastic project for intermediate sewists looking to grow their skills and gain confidence working with garment construction techniques.
This boxy, front button top features a lapel collar and patch pocket. No darts, just clean lines and approachable polish. While the silhouette is simple, the construction offers just the right amount of challenge to help you level up without feeling overwhelmed.
By the end of class, you'll have a versatile handmade shirt and a better understanding of garment finishing techniques that you can apply to future projects.
Perfect for those who have a few sewing projects under their belt and are ready to push their skills a little further.
You'll need to buy fabric at least 1 week prior to class to allow time for washing and other prep. You'll arrive to class with your fabric pieces already cut out, raw edges finished, and interfacing applied. You'll receive a video with instructions for how to prep your fabric, measure yourself, and cut out your fabric pattern pieces.
In this course you will learn how to:
- Create and sew on a collar
- Making and top stitching a front button placket
- How to work from a printed pattern
- Using the Burrito Method
At the end of class you'll have a completed shirt body with finished collar and placket. Depending on the pace you work at you may need to finish the shirt hem and attach buttons on your own. There will be an hour after class that you can stay to continue working on your project, this hour will not include an instructor.
Class Duration: 4 Hours + 1 hour of independent work time after class
Students Bring: Students will need to purchase the Cameron Button Up pattern from Helen's Closet Students will also bring their cut out pattern pieces, thread, the printed pattern, and scrap fabric. (an instructional video for completing the prep work will be sent out about 2 weeks prior to class.)
Suggested Fabric: This pattern is for woven fabrics. You can choose from a variety of fabrics depending on how heavy you would like your shirt to be. A light - midweight woven will work great.
Materials Included with registration: Once you have purchased the Cameron Button Up pattern you can email us the A0 file and we will print a large format copy for you. This can be picked up at the shop or mailed to you for an additional $5. You are welcome to use one of our classroom machines or bring your own. We will provide all the needed tools.
You will leave with: A (mostly) finished Cameron Button Up, and the knowledge and confidence to continue making your own clothes!
