Hemming for Beginners
Class Description: Pants too long? Skirt not hitting right? In this class you'll get to hem your garments so that they fall where you want them to on your body, instead of wherever the manufacturer decided they should. Bring a garment or two that you'd like to hem, and you'll learn the basics of hemming in a fun, supportive environment.
For this class, please only bring lightweight or midweight garments like pants, chinos, shorts, button-up shirts, skirts, and dresses. Please note that we advise against bringing slippery fabrics (such as satin), stretchy fabrics (knits), or jeans because the tools we have available are not ideal for these fabrics and they can be difficult for beginners. We will not be doing any other alterations besides hemming in this class, and we will not be covering intermediate techniques like invisible hems or hand-stitched hems.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Students Bring: Bring the garment(s) that you'd like to hem and the coordinating thread you'd like to use.

Materials Included: Students will have sewing machines, irons, hot hemmers, rotary cutters and mats, and all the tools needed to hem their garments. If you don't bring thread, we will supply white cotton thread for you to use.
You'll Leave With: Your freshly hemmed garment and the knowledge and confidence to hem other pieces in your wardrobe.
Skill Level: Beginner Level 1
Skill Details: If you've never touched a sewing machine or if it's been a while this class is for you! We have designed this class to cater to absolute beginners. You do not need to know anything about sewing to take this class.
Age Range: This class is designed for adults. Teens 15+ may attend with an adult who is also registered for the class. If you're looking for kids sewing classes we recommend checking out our neighbor Tomato Tomato Creative.
