Virtual - Intro To Quilting
Description: Have you always wanted to know how to quilt? This is the perfect class to get you started!
This is an info dump in quilting. This 3 session lecture style course will cover all the basics of quilting to help you get started. We will not be sewing together but the instructor will be demonstrating various techniques. Our owner Tawnee will be teaching this one. She has been quilting for over 15 years and will be sharing all her best tips and tricks!
This is an information heavy classes. Students should be prepared to take lot's of notes and ask lot's of questions!
This class will be held virtually on zoom. Students will receive a link to the class the day before. All sessions will be recorded and sent out to students after.
Session 1: Selecting Fabric, Selecting Patterns, Cutting
You'll learn how to select a pattern and understand pattern terminology. How to select fabric for your patter and considerations for things like value, print scale, and color theory. How to prep your fabric and how to get consistent and precise cuts.
Session 2: 1/4" seam, Pressing, Assembling Quilt Top
You'll learn how to set up and test a 1/4" seam on your machine. Techniques for accurate piecing. Best practices for pressing and tips to help speed up the assembly process.
Session 3: Basting, Machine Quilting, Binding
You'll learn different methods for creating a "quilt sandwich." Including how to use a home made basting spray. We'll demonstrate techniques for machine quilting on your domestic machine, go over hand quilting, and we'll finish with how to make and attach quilt binding.
Duration: Each session is 2 hrs for a total class time of 6 hrs.
Students Bring: You do not need to have anything prepped to sew along with this class. We recommend a notebook for taking notes and being prepared to ask lots of questions!
We'll Provide: All students will keep the class recordings and receive a quilting basics handouts that includes that topics covered in class.
You'll leave with: At the end of the three sessions you'll have the skills and confidence to dive into a quilting project!
Skill Level: Confident Beginner - Students should have some sewing experience and be comfortable operating their own sewing machine.
