Ice Dyeing
Description: Join us for ice dyeing! In this fun 1.5 hr workshop we'll go over the magic that is Ice Dye. We'll cover all the steps of the process and you will go home with the tools to do it again! We'll start by mordanting our fabric in soda ash. We'll then scrunch it into our bins, add ice, and then the dye! You'll finish your dyeing at home with a rinse and wash. Printed instructions for at home steps will be provided.
Class Duration: 1.5 hours
Students Bring: Fabric or other dyeable materials. You can bring up to 3 yds of fabric, or similar amount of clothing. Material should be at least 95% natural fiber like cotton, linen, hemp, or rayon and white or natural in color. Dye results will vary based on the material. You are also welcome to bring clothing items! Please be sure to wash fabric prior to class, do not use any fabric softener or dyer sheets. Please bring a mask for working with the powdered dye.
We'll supply: A plastic bin with grate, gloves, soda ash for mordanting, 14 colors of fiber reactive dye to choose from, and of course the ice! Please note that you will be taking home your bin and rinsing and washing your fabric at home the next day. You can return the bin and grate to us for a $15 store credit
